About The Position

AVON PUBLIC SCHOOLS is seeking an Elementary Special Education Teacher for a Long-Term Substitute position. This role involves providing comprehensive case management, planning and delivering instruction to students with social, emotional, and behavioral support needs. The teacher will also train and support paraeducators, co-teach, and collaborate with other teachers and families. Implementation of IEPs and leading PPT processes are key responsibilities. The position starts on August 24, 2026, and ends on or about March 1, 2026.

Requirements

  • Must possess or be eligible for Connecticut State Department of Education certification for Special Education (165 or 065).
  • Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Cover letter specific to the position

  • Copies of any certifications
  • Copies of any college/university transcripts
  • Three letters of reference dated within the last year

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive case management, planning and providing instruction directly to students requiring social, emotional and behavioral support.
  • Provides training, support, and guidance to a team of para educators; co-teaches; communicates and collaborates with teachers and families.
  • Implements IEP and leads PPT processes
  • Other responsibilities as defined by the building principal or designee.
