The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is seeking a Special Education Teacher - Itinerant (Parochial) to provide students with the ability to obtain knowledge, information, skills and to have a sense of self-worth and dignity that will help them be successful as they transition from high school to the community. This role involves advocating for students with special needs, developing and maintaining positive professional relationships, planning instructional programs including individual plans as outlined on students’ Individual Education Programs, and serving as a liaison between the school and the community. The teacher will also establish I.E.P./annual review meetings, serve as an active member on the I.E.P. team, develop and maintain all I.E.P.’s in accordance with federal, state and local guidelines, and maintain close communication with mainstream teachers and other service providers. Additional responsibilities include evaluating student performance, monitoring progress in mainstreamed classes, assisting in establishing class schedules, supervising and training paraprofessionals, requesting necessary equipment and supplies, demonstrating curriculum knowledge and teaching strategies, and implementing behavioral intervention plans. The position requires the ability to work a full duty day, possess physical and emotional ability to perform required work, and maintain a neat and appropriate appearance.
