About The Position

Early Childhood Special Education Teacher responsible for the planning and implementation of instruction for early childhood age students with disabilities that adversely affect their progress in the educational setting.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with ZA or ZS endorsement OR Major or Minor in Early Childhood Education.
  • Endorsement in an area of special education, autism preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with a major in special education.
  • Applying assessment instruments.
  • Operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications.
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios.
  • Reading technical information.
  • Composing a variety of documents.
  • Facilitating group discussions.
  • Analyzing situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
  • Appropriate codes, policies, regulations and/or laws.
  • Age appropriate activities.
  • Content knowledge.
  • Lesson plan requirements.
  • Stages of child development.

  • Meeting multiple demands from several people and interact with students, the public and other staff.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and implement developmentally appropriate and individualized instruction to young children with disabilities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of normal child development as well as knowledge of various disabilities.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively engage young children through play, communication and developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Collect student data and make instructional decisions based on data.
  • Work collaboratively with ancillary and support staff on behalf of caseload students.
  • Communicate consistently with staff, parents, general education teachers and administrators on students’ needs.
  • Develop and implement positive behavior supports all students.
  • Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate effective organizational skills, ability to meet required deadlines and maintain documentation.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by administration.
  • Regular, reliable and punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.
