About The Position

This position is for a Special Education Teacher Assistant - Tier 3 within the Resource Room Program, focusing on students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Behavior needs. The role involves assisting students with personal needs, supporting them in the classroom environment, and following prescribed behavioral and instructional programs. The assistant must be able to maintain composure during stressful situations and may require physical flexibility for tasks such as running, walking, lifting, and responding to student physical needs. Training in student health-related awareness and intervention is necessary. The position may involve assignments at multiple sites and locations based on individual student needs. Responsibilities can include assisting with medical tasks such as blood testing, insulin administration, suctioning, diastat, and medication dispensing. The assistant will also provide general help during downtime and maintain records, with potential parent contact. Key characteristics sought include being child-centered, adaptable, calm, respectful, patient, and able to maintain confidentiality and focus amidst distractions. Wheelchair assistance may be required. Good attendance is essential.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of student needs.
  • Ability and desire to work with special needs students.
  • Ability to assist student(s) with multiple challenges in the classroom/school environment.
  • Ability to follow through with prescribed behavioral management or instructional programs.
  • Ability to maintain composure and communication during stressful situations.
  • May need good physical flexibility such as ability to run, walk, lift and/or respond to student physical needs.
  • Willingness to be trained in area(s) of student health-related awareness and intervention.
  • Willingness to accept assignment at multiple and potentially differing sites and locations depending on individual student needs as determined by the District.
  • Ability to work with blood testing, insulin, ports, suctioning, diastat, medication dispensing, etc.
  • Willingness to be assigned as general help during "down-periods".
  • Maintain various records and file, parent contact may be required.
  • Good attendance required.
