About The Position

This position is for a Special Education Teacher Assistant focusing on students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The role involves assisting students with their personal needs, supporting them in the classroom and school environment, and implementing prescribed behavioral and instructional programs. The assistant must be able to maintain composure during stressful situations and may require physical flexibility for tasks such as running, walking, lifting, and responding to student needs. Training in student health-related awareness and intervention will be provided. The position may involve assignments at multiple sites and potential adjustments in hours based on student and program needs. Record keeping and parent contact may be required. The ideal candidate will be child-centered, adaptable, patient, respectful, maintain confidentiality, and possess a calm demeanor with the ability to focus.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of student needs.
  • Ability and desire to work with special needs students.
  • Ability to assist student(s) with multiple challenges in the classroom/school environment.
  • Ability to follow through with prescribed behavioral management or instructional programs.
  • Ability to maintain composure and communication during stressful situations.
  • May need good physical flexibility such as ability to run, walk, lift and/or respond to student physical needs.
  • Willingness to be trained in area(s) of student health related awareness and intervention.
  • Willingness to accept assignment at multiple and potentially differing sites and locations depending on individual student needs as determined by the District.
  • Willingness to be assigned as general help during "down-periods".
  • Wheelchair assistance may be required.
  • Good attendance required.
