About The Position

This position is for a Special Education Teacher Assistant focusing on students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The role involves assisting students with their personal needs, including hygiene, toileting, and dressing, as well as supporting them with various challenges in the classroom and school environment. The assistant will follow prescribed behavioral management and instructional programs, maintain composure during stressful situations, and may need to be physically flexible to assist students. Training in student health-related awareness and intervention will be provided. The position may require working at multiple sites and potentially adjusting hours based on student and program needs. Record keeping and parent contact may also be part of the responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be child-centered, adaptable, patient, respectful, and able to maintain confidentiality and focus.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of student needs.
  • Ability and desire to work with special needs students.
  • Ability to follow through with prescribed behavioral management or instructional programs.
  • Ability to maintain composure and communication during stressful situations.
  • May need good physical flexibility such as ability to run, walk, lift and/or respond to student physical needs.
  • Willingness to be trained in area(s) of student health related awareness and intervention.
  • Willingness to be assigned as general help during "down-periods".
  • Good attendance required.

  • Willingness to accept assignment at multiple and potentially differing sites and locations depending on individual student needs as determined by the District.
  • Wheelchair assistance may be required.
