About The Position

The Special Education Teacher Assistant - AIM (Adjusted, Integrated, Modified curriculum) will assist students with personal needs, including hygiene, diapering, toileting, and clothing. This role requires the ability to support students with multiple challenges in the classroom and school environment, follow prescribed behavioral management or instructional programs, and maintain composure during stressful situations. The position may involve physical demands such as running, walking, lifting, and responding to student physical needs. Training in student health-related awareness and intervention will be provided. The role requires flexibility in assignment to multiple sites and potential adjustments in hours based on student and program needs. Responsibilities include maintaining records, filing, and potential parent contact. Key characteristics sought are a child-centered approach, adaptability, a calm demeanor, respect for dignity, patience, confidentiality, and the ability to focus amidst distractions. Wheelchair assistance may be required. Good attendance is essential.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of student needs.
  • Ability and desire to work with special needs students.
  • Ability to assist student(s) with multiple challenges in the classroom/school environment.
  • Ability to follow through with prescribed behavioral management or instructional programs.
  • Ability to maintain composure and communication during stressful situations.
  • May need good physical flexibility such as ability to run, walk, lift and/or respond to student physical needs.
  • Willingness to be trained in area(s) of student health related awareness and intervention.
  • Willingness to be assigned as general help during "down-periods".
  • Good attendance required.
