About The Position

This is a full-time, permanent position for a Special Education Teacher specializing in Adapted Curriculum for secondary students. The role involves developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), adapting lessons to meet student needs, and supporting behavioral interventions. The teacher will collaborate with various school personnel, parents, and external agencies to ensure student success in the least restrictive environment. Responsibilities include assessment, data collection, behavior management, and fostering an organized, visually supported classroom environment. The position also requires communication with parents and participation in professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education or a related field.
  • Eligible for or in possession of appropriate Virginia teacher licensure with endorsement in Special Education, Adaptive Curriculum K-12.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students and their parents.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Adapt lesson plans to implement IEP goals and meet the special needs of students in the least restrictive environment.
  • Develop and support the Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) and Behavioral Intervention Plan (BIP) process, including data collection.
  • Ensure compliance with state and district-wide assessments, including providing student accommodations.
  • Provide instructional and/or behavioral intervention strategies to support students in the least restrictive environment.
  • Assess students' social and academic needs to support them in the least restrictive environment.
  • Collaborate with school personnel, parents, and agencies to develop and modify student programming.
  • Manage student behavior using effective and evidence-based approaches.
  • Work with and support paraprofessionals in program classrooms.
  • Confer with the student's IEP team (physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, other special education teachers, specialists, and staff) to fully implement the student's IEP.
  • Engage in data-based decision making, including gathering and interpreting data.
  • Provide an organized classroom environment that utilizes visual strategies to support students in becoming independent learners.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student progress and interpret the school program.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and professional growth activities.
