About The Position

We have an opening for a Special Education Teacher to co-teach 5th grade English/Language Arts for the upcoming school year. New employees are expected to attend New Teacher Orientation on August 13th & 14th, and the week of staff professional development beginning August 17th. First day of school for students is August 24, 2026. An SLCS teacher is responsible for planning, instruction, activities and assessments based on the SLCS curriculum. Teachers are tasked with creating an integrated instructional program that supports an inclusion-based learning approach fostering a safe environment that respects academic and cultural diversity. Additionally, teachers are expected to work together with other teaching and support professionals in a collaborative manner to provide teaching strategies and methods that address a wide range of learning styles, individual needs, interests, abilities, and maturity levels of students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
  • Pennsylvania Department of Education Certification in Special Education PK-8 or K-12
  • Understanding and commitment to inclusive learning
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong research, planning, and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to positively interact with students to encourage development
  • Experience with MS Office, Google Suite

Responsibilities

  • Assessing students’ developmental, cognitive, emotional and social needs, and learning styles; providing developmentally appropriate instruction to meet those needs
  • Completing academic testing as required, utilizing the resulting information along with classroom observations to identify students to be placed in or out of the Special Education program
  • Working collaboratively with classroom teachers to develop and implement developmentally appropriate instruction and activities that integrate, support, and expand the SLCS curricula
  • Developing, monitoring, and reporting on all IEPs within the established guidelines
  • Ensuring differentiated instruction, accommodations, modifications and other IEP considerations are occurring consistently as outlined in the IEP
  • Acting as an advocate for all students to ensure that their needs are being met
  • Evaluating student performance and sharing information with the classroom teacher, support teachers, and administration
  • Working in cooperation with classroom teachers to identify students who may be at risk academically and/or behaviorally
