About The Position

This position is for the 2026-2027 school year at Cleveland Elementary School. The school focuses on helping students learn to be Responsible, On task, Achieve their goals, and show Respect to others. The role involves supporting students with their learning and behavior objectives, providing personal care as needed, and assisting teachers with instructional and clerical tasks. The position is 0.90625 FTE, working 36 hours per week over 9 months.

Requirements

Two years of post high school education or higher, or be able to pass a standardized test approved by the state of South Dakota, for designated Education Assistant positions.
At least one year of work experience in a position requiring interpersonal interaction skills and knowledge of strategies to support students with social, emotional, and behavior needs.
Experience with behavior management.

Responsibilities

Escorts students to transportation and other areas of the building.
Provides personal care to students with special daily living needs (e.g., toileting, feeding, physical management).
Provides review and practice of skills taught by a teacher with students 1:1 and in small groups in special education classroom and/or regular classroom.
Works with students in schools and on community outings.
Prepares instructional materials as directed/selected by teacher.
Reinforces instructional/behavioral objectives.
Provides clerical assistance to maintaining student records (charting, assignments, attendance, data for progress notes).
Assists with the supervision of students during recess, lunchroom, and on the playground.
Maintain the confidentiality of students and their families.
Reinforces instructional and behavioral objectives for children.
Performs other duties as assigned.
