About The Position

This role involves providing support to students within general education and resource room settings. The assistant will be responsible for monitoring and managing student behavior, implementing behavior intervention plans, and providing sensory integration as needed. The position requires a caring and nurturing approach to working with children, effective communication skills, flexibility, teamwork, and organization. The assistant must also be technology literate and willing to perform various supervision duties such as recess monitoring, bus loading/unloading, and lunchroom supervision. All other duties assigned by classroom teachers, the Principal, and/or the Director of Student Services are also part of the role.

  • Ability to be flexible with varying student needs and schedule changes.
  • Ability to follow, implement and document all aspects of Positive Behavior Intervention Plan.
  • Ability to provide sensory integration as needed.
  • Effective communication skills with a variety of staff and students.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, teamwork and organization.
  • Hard working and team player.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to lift and transfer students.
  • Technology literate.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with students with autism and/or emotional impairment is preferred.
  • CPI and/or Ukeru trained preferred.
  • 60 credit hours of college credit preferred.
  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • College Board’s SAT score of at least a 480 on evidence-based reading and writing and a 530 on math preferred.
  • ETS Parapro Assessment with a passing score of 460 preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to students within general education and resource room locations.
  • Monitor and manage student behavior.
  • Follow, implement, and document all aspects of Positive Behavior Intervention Plan.
  • Provide sensory integration as needed.
  • Work with children in a caring, nurturing manner.
  • Perform recess monitoring, bus loading/unloading and lunchroom supervision, as necessary.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the classroom teachers, Principal and/or Director of Student Services.
