About The Position

To assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of appropriate instructional programs which will offer the maximum effectiveness and efficiency in supporting the Mission of the WFISD and in the educational development and evaluation of instructional personnel as related to special education supports and services.

Requirements

  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate (Special Education)
  • Minimum 3 years of special education teaching experience

Responsibilities

  • Uses effective communication skills in dealing with district and school administrators, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Makes recommendations to classroom teachers and/or administrators related to instruction, supervision, and curriculum based upon classroom observations and assessment findings.
  • Assists in the implementation of instructional goals and objectives, involving specialists, teachers, parents and/or students, when appropriate.
  • Coach teachers to develop and implement improvement of accommodations/modifications including behavioral/social skills needed to create greater access to general education instruction or the appropriate setting.
  • Model and monitor academic intervention strategies and appropriate data collection techniques for both general education staff and special education staff.
  • Coach classroom teachers and/or case managers in the development and implementation of ARD paperwork. This includes, but is not limited to, the development of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • Observe classroom instruction, provide feedback and demonstrate teaching strategies with students in the classroom.
  • Provides instructional methodology, social, and behavioral support and trainings to teachers, students, and staff.
  • Provide campus support and interventions for students, parents, teachers, support staff, and administrators to better instruct students with IEPs.
  • Works as a member of the district’s Special Education Leadership Team and with members of school teams to assess student needs, determine appropriate interventions, set up appropriate progress monitoring plans, analyze student date and complete Functional Behavior Assessment with Behavior Intervention Plans in order to provide appropriate behavioral supports for students.
  • Understands the student management system, and expected student behaviors, in order to handle staff matters related to student management concerns involving curriculum and instructional issues.
  • Promotes a positive image that supports the school district’s goals and objectives.
  • Systematically monitors program activities; uses evaluative findings to determine the quality of outcomes related to programs and services.
  • Demonstrates appropriate use of student achievement data in interpreting, reporting, and acting on results.
  • Maintains appropriate records for area of responsibility.
  • Recommends or develops appropriate instructional materials and accurate assessments to aid teachers and principals in measuring growth of students and programs.
  • Monitors program activities and uses findings to determine the quality of outcomes related to programs and services.
  • Understand and demonstrate the appropriate use of student achievement data in interpreting, reporting, and acting on results.
  • Facilitate training and continued assistance in basic ARD compliance.
  • Facilitate trainings and continued assistance for all teachers and principals regarding Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), FAPE, FERPA, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) driven by Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA)
  • Facilitate training and continued support regarding district wide programs.
  • Knowledgeable regarding the entrance and exit of district wide programs.
  • Knowledgeable regarding state and federal guidelines regarding discipline and the MDR process.
  • Collaborates regularly with all staff to develop growth plans and supports individual professional development activities.
  • Facilitates training and continued support for all teachers regarding FERPA, FIE Development, ARD compliance, development of functional behavior assessments.
  • Implement the policies established by federal and state law, state board of education, and the local board policy in the areas supervised.
  • Analyzes facility and equipment needs for optimum teaching and learning (sensory rooms); utilizes information to recommend necessary changes or adjustments.
  • Participates in professional development to hone his/her skills, and disseminates ideas and information to other educators or community members, and provides leadership in identifying trends and opportunities, as well as solving problems facing the profession.
  • Utilizes evaluative feedback from peers, subordinates, and supervisor regarding job performance.
  • Adheres to the Professional Code of Ethics.
  • Understands the goals of the district and effectively communicates them to others.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or designee.
