About The Position

ACLD is seeking a Special Education Pre-School Teacher for its Bay Shore Facility. This role involves teaching preschool children with a wide range of developmental abilities in various educational settings, including self-contained, integrated, off-site, and individual instruction. The Teacher will be responsible for planning and modifying the educational curriculum to meet the individual needs of children, utilizing various techniques and strategies in accordance with NYS Pre-K standards and school district IEPs. ACLD is a not-for-profit agency founded in 1957, assisting children, teens, and adults with developmental disabilities to reach their highest level of independence.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Early Childhood or related field; will consider Bachelor’s degree working toward Master’s degree.
  • NYS Teacher Certification in Special Education, Students with Disabilities (Birth-Grade 2)
  • Must be physically able to handle all aspects of the supervision of the day-to-day activities of preschoolers which may include, but not limited to, running, bending lifting up children.
  • Ability to objectively facilitate discussion, planning, and provide conflict resolution within the professional team.
  • Ability to organize and manage professional team responsibilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and be an effective communicator and motivator.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with preschool aged children with special needs preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
