About The Position

This role involves supporting special education students by implementing academic and behavioral plans, instructing students in various subjects and life skills, and maintaining instructional materials and student records. The paraprofessional will work closely with the IEP team, teachers, and other school districts to ensure student success and a safe learning environment. Additional duties may be assigned as required.

  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and business contacts in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of office equipment, especially the computer.
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to exercise reasonable judgment and maintain confidentiality.
  • High school diploma or the equivalent.
  • Two years of college [48 units], or A.A. Degree [or higher].

Responsibilities

  • Confer with the IEP team for the purpose of evaluating special education student progress and implementing IEP objectives.
  • Implement academic instruction designed by a teacher for individuals or small groups to meet learning goals.
  • Implement behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions.
  • Instruct special education students in areas such as math, science, reading, behavioral skills, daily living skills, writing, and verbal skills.
  • Maintain instructional materials and/or student files/records, including adapting materials and checking papers.
  • Monitor special education students to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Perform record keeping (daily data on instruction and/or behavior) and clerical functions.
  • Communicate and work with surrounding school districts to retrieve and provide Special Education documents.
  • Investigate and visit alternative Special Education programs to use as a referring resource.
  • Attend meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
