About The Position
This position is for a Special Education Paraprofessional at Queen's Grant Community School for the 2026-27 School Year, scheduled for 35 hours per week. North Oak Academy, located in Durham, North Carolina, is opened as part of the National Heritage Academies network of schools. Through a character-based approach to education, the academy inspires students to excel academically and think creatively to reach their full potential. Dedicated teachers help students apply critical-thinking skills to solve real-world problems, preparing them to tackle 21st-century challenges and excel in college, life, and beyond. The school offers a safe learning environment with internal and external cameras, behavioral support for teachers and students (ABSS), and utilizes the Dean support model.
Requirements
- Must meet state requirements for being a Title 1 paraprofessional.
- Ability to defuse situations and prevent escalation.
- Aptitude to understand and navigate technical systems.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience supporting individuals with disabilities and/or behavior modifications, preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assess student abilities and provide instructional and behavioral assistance for students in accordance with their individual education plan (IEP) and/or their 504-behavior plan as directed by the special education team. Support can be provided 1:1 or in small groups.
- Commit to educating the whole student – academically, morally, and socially.
- Implement result-driven curriculum and instruction specially designed to meet the unique needs of each student resulting from his/her disability such as, resource room, inclusion and/or pullout services.
- Attend professional development, specialized trainings and IEP meetings with special education team and parents as required.
- Assist with the required compliance documentation.
