About The Position

The Special Education Paraprofessional assists in the supervision, care, and instruction of special needs students within various classroom settings. This role involves helping to implement instructional plans, monitor student behavior, communicate with school personnel, and perform clerical tasks. The goal is to support special needs students in their academic and social growth within the school environment.

Requirements

  • Sixty (60) college credit hours or Praxis for Para Educators is required for Title I Buildings.

Responsibilities

  • Adapts and provides accommodations of classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the teacher.
  • Aids students in and out of the classroom with tasks such as packing backpacks, note-taking, relationship building, field trips, and social skills.
  • Assists students with personal care needs due to medical conditions or physical limitations, such as lavatory and nutritional support.
  • Attends meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey information relevant to job functions and meet State requirements.
  • Collaborates with staff to provide necessary support and information related to student progress as established in their Individual Educational Program (IEP).
  • Implements behavioral plans for students as designed by the IEP team.
  • Implements educational and behavioral programming under the supervision of certified staff.
  • Instructs students in academic subjects, social skills, and daily living skills in individual and group settings to meet IEP goals.
  • Maintains instructional materials and data sheets to ensure availability and provide reliable information on student progress.
  • Monitors students during assigned periods in various school environments to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Performs administrative support and record-keeping functions to conform to State and Federal program standards.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of collecting significant amounts of data and managing significant behavior.
