About The Position

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or higher Required
  • Workkeys or equivalent certification or able to obtain within 1 year after hire Required
  • 1 year minimum training or experience working with special needs students Required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent teamwork skills

  • Experience working in an urban setting preferred
  • Experience working with diverse student populations preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in providing an innovative, high-quality education program designed to meet the needs of the children at MLKCSE.
  • Work with school staff to create an educational environment where quality and continuity are key factors in educating the students of MLKCSE.
  • Support instruction by working with individual students in a classroom setting to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Provide assistance with classroom activities.
  • Support students with transitions.
  • Manage individual student behavior, using research-based best approaches.
  • Help students master equipment and/or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
  • Assist in the implementation of behavioral modification programs as directed and supervised by the teacher.
  • Collect and maintain data (daily and weekly).
  • Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the Principal.
