About The Position

Sheridan County School District is looking for a positive, professional, and motivated Paraprofessional to join the Highland Park School team. This is a full time position working Monday - Friday, 7 hours per day. Time off matches the school calendar including Christmas, Spring and Summer breaks. Paid time off includes 2-4 personal days and 10 sick leave days annually.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Good command of the English language.
  • Ability to work well with students and staff.
  • Working knowledge and competence in reading, math, English, and related academic subjects.
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) - Annual Training
  • Other training as determined necessary based on specific disabilities of students served.

Nice To Haves

  • Typing and computer skills preferred.
  • Highly qualified (associate's degree OR pass the ParaPro exam) - This is for Title-1 Paraprofessional positions ONLY!

Responsibilities

  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material, specially designed instruction, or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
  • Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  • Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
  • Assists with such large group activities as needed by the special education teacher and teacher.
  • Supports academic instruction, including reading, writing, math, and participates in other forms of verbal, non-verbal, and visual communication with students.
  • Monitors progress and provides documentation to the special education teacher, also assists with testing and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information concerning school matters.
  • Work directly under the supervision of a special education teacher.
  • Supports students with self-help/self-care needs if necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned based on the student's needs.
