About The Position

Farmington High School (Grades 9-12) is seeking a Special Service Paraprofessional. Position is 6.5 hours per day (not including 30 minute unpaid lunch), school year. The Special Service Paraprofessional will provide personal care/hygiene (i.e. lifting up to 50 pounds and toileting) and assists with medicine regimen. The paraprofessional also may provide a variety of instructional services and classroom support to staff and students. This includes carrying out teacher prepared lesson plans and supervising teacher-planned activities, assisting in the preparation of materials for instruction, and recording individual progress of students. This position exhibits a cooperative working relationship with teachers.

Requirements

  • Candidate should hold an Associate's degree or 2 years of college diploma or its equivalent (i.e. Para Pathways Assessment).
  • Candidate should demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain a good rapport with students and possess a personable relationship with teachers.
  • Ability to carry out directions in both oral and written form.
  • Various life/work experiences that contribute to the candidate's overall preparedness.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Prior experience working with school age children is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting Instruction: Tutoring/one-on-one instruction, Circulating in classroom, Helping group instruction, Modifying instruction materials, Assisting students with technology, Assisting students with testing and assessments
  • Documentation and Data: Observing and collecting data on students, Organizing (data, graphs, etc), Recording student progress (including data), Taking classroom notes, Taking attendance
  • Student Management: Provides personal care/hygiene (i.e.lifting and toileting), Assists with medicine regimen, Monitor hallways and/or study halls, Maintain on-task behavior, Corrects minor behavioral problems, PMT and restraint training, Escort students to other classes
  • Clerical: Scheduling activities, Copying, stapling, sorting, etc, Operate media and classroom tools, Maintain equipment, Run errands
  • Other: Handling records in a confidential manner, Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor, May be asked to provide medical or personal care / hygiene which may require lifting up to 50 pounds
