About The Position
East Farms Elementary (Grades K-4) is seeking a Special Service Paraprofessional in the SLC (Specialized Learning Center). Position is 6.5 hours per day (not including 30 minute unpaid lunch), school year. Position includes 8 paid holidays, 12 sick days, 3 personal days. Position is eligible for health insurance, life insurance and long-term disability.
Requirements
- Candidate should hold an Associate's degree or 2 years of college diploma or its equivalent (i.e. Para Pathways Assessment).
- Candidate should demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain a good rapport with students and possess a personable relationship with teachers.
- Ability to carry out directions in both oral and written form.
- Various life/work experiences that contribute to the candidate's overall preparedness.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Prior experience working with school age children is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Provide personal care/hygiene (i.e. lifting up to 50 pounds and toileting) and assists with medicine regimen.
- Provide a variety of instructional services and classroom support to staff and students.
- Carry out teacher prepared lesson plans and supervising teacher-planned activities.
- Assist in the preparation of materials for instruction.
- Record individual progress of students.
- Exhibit a cooperative working relationship with teachers.
- Tutoring/one-on-one instruction
- Circulating in classroom
- Helping group instruction
- Modifying instruction materials
- Assisting students with technology
- Assisting students with testing and assessments
- Observing and collecting data on students
- Organizing (data, graphs, etc)
- Recording student progress (including data)
- Taking classroom notes
- Taking attendance
- Provides personal care/hygiene (i.e.lifting and toileting)
- Assists with medicine regimen
- Monitor hallways and/or study halls
- Maintain on-task behavior
- Corrects minor behavioral problems
- PMT and restraint training
- Escort students to other classes
- Scheduling activities
- Copying, stapling, sorting, etc
- Operate media and classroom tools
- Maintain equipment
- Run errands
- Handling records in a confidential manner
- Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
- May be asked to provide medical or personal care / hygiene which may require lifting up to 50 pounds
