About The Position

East Farms Elementary (Grades K-4) is seeking a Special Service Paraprofessional in the SLC (Specialized Learning Center). Position is 6.5 hours per day (not including 30 minute unpaid lunch), school year. Position includes 8 paid holidays, 12 sick days, 3 personal days. Position is eligible for health insurance, life insurance and long-term disability.

Requirements

  • Candidate should hold an Associate's degree or 2 years of college diploma or its equivalent (i.e. Para Pathways Assessment).
  • Candidate should demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain a good rapport with students and possess a personable relationship with teachers.
  • Ability to carry out directions in both oral and written form.
  • Various life/work experiences that contribute to the candidate's overall preparedness.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Prior experience working with school age children is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care/hygiene (i.e. lifting up to 50 pounds and toileting) and assists with medicine regimen.
  • Provide a variety of instructional services and classroom support to staff and students.
  • Carry out teacher prepared lesson plans and supervising teacher-planned activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of materials for instruction.
  • Record individual progress of students.
  • Exhibit a cooperative working relationship with teachers.
  • Tutoring/one-on-one instruction
  • Circulating in classroom
  • Helping group instruction
  • Modifying instruction materials
  • Assisting students with technology
  • Assisting students with testing and assessments
  • Observing and collecting data on students
  • Organizing (data, graphs, etc)
  • Recording student progress (including data)
  • Taking classroom notes
  • Taking attendance
  • Provides personal care/hygiene (i.e.lifting and toileting)
  • Assists with medicine regimen
  • Monitor hallways and/or study halls
  • Maintain on-task behavior
  • Corrects minor behavioral problems
  • PMT and restraint training
  • Escort students to other classes
  • Scheduling activities
  • Copying, stapling, sorting, etc
  • Operate media and classroom tools
  • Maintain equipment
  • Run errands
  • Handling records in a confidential manner
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
  • May be asked to provide medical or personal care / hygiene which may require lifting up to 50 pounds
