About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team at Grand Ledge High School as a Special Education ParaEducator. This full-time position is designed for someone who is passionate about supporting students with diverse learning needs. The ideal candidate will work closely with special education teachers to provide assistance in the classroom and help create an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support students in their learning and development.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow directions from teachers and specialists.
• Basic computer skills and proficiency in using educational technology and software.
• Must pass background checks and meet any additional state or district requirements for employment in a school setting.

Nice To Haves

• An associate's degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field is preferred.
• Previous experience working with students with disabilities or in a special education setting is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist special education teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
• Provide direct support to students in academic, social, and behavioral areas, ensuring they have access to the curriculum.
• Help facilitate small group instruction and one-on-one tutoring sessions tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
• Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and engagement, reporting any concerns to the teacher.
• Support students during transitions between classes, lunchtime, and other school activities to promote social integration.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff members to develop and adapt instructional materials and strategies.
• Assist with the implementation of behavioral interventions and strategies to promote positive behavior and social skills.
• Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training sessions as required.
• Uphold confidentiality and adhere to all school policies and procedures regarding student information and safety.
