About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team at Wacousta Elementary as a Special Education ParaEducator. This full-time position plays a vital role in supporting students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they have access to a meaningful and inclusive educational experience. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers and other staff to provide individualized assistance, promote positive behavior, and foster a supportive learning environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in education, psychology, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow directions from teachers and special education professionals.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the learning and development of students with diverse needs.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with educational technology.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Background check clearance as required by school district policy.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students in academic and social skills development.
  • Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and engagement, reporting findings to teachers and special education staff.
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and parents to enhance student learning and well-being.
  • Support students in daily activities, including transitions, lunch, and recess, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Help prepare instructional materials and adapt resources to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Implement behavioral intervention strategies as directed by the teacher or special education staff.
  • Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and training as required.
  • Collaborate with other educational professionals, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and school counselors.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and adhere to school policies and procedures.
