About The Position

Lake Chelan School District has an immediate opening for the 2026/2027 school year for a Special Education Paraeducator. Placement will be at the Lake Chelan Preschool and/or Morgen Owings Elementary for up to 7.5 hours a day including time riding the school bus with students in the afternoons; depending on needs. The Special Education Paraprofessional supports students with special needs. This role involves working under the supervision of a special education teacher to implement individualized education plans (IEPs), providing direct assistance to students, and helping create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or 72 college credits OR pass the ParaPro Assessment
Valid first aid/CPR card or willingness to obtain
Washington State Patrol, FBI and Sexual Misconduct clearance
Other job requirements as included in the district’s Para educator job description
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Basic knowledge of child development and special education practices

Nice To Haves

Previous experience working with children with disabilities preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
Bilingual skills preferred (English/Spanish)

Responsibilities

Assist students with disabilities in learning and practicing daily living skills such as hygiene, dressing, grooming, and feeding.
Provide support with academic tasks, adapting materials, and modifying curriculum as directed by the special education teacher.
Support students in developing social skills, communication skills, and appropriate behavior.
Implement IEP goals and objectives under the supervision of the special education teacher.
Use a variety of instructional techniques and learning strategies to meet the individual needs of students.
Help maintain a safe and supportive classroom environment conducive to learning.
Monitor student behavior and implement behavior management strategies as directed.
Collect and record data on student progress and behavior as required by the special education teacher and IEP team.
Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other staff to support student learning and development.
Participate in team meetings, professional development, and training sessions as required.
Provide physical assistance to students as needed, including lifting, transferring, and positioning.
Assist with the use of adaptive equipment and technology.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the special education teacher or school administration.
Flexibility of riding on the bus with students either in the mornings or afternoons to assist students and drivers.
Support the overall mission and vision of the school and special education program.
