About The Position

This position is for a Special Education Paraeducator within the Special Programs department for the 2026-2027 school year. The role involves supporting students in various capacities under the guidance of teachers and other professional staff. The position is 6 hours per day, 190 days per year, and is benefits-eligible. The application deadline is open until filled.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • AA degree, OR 72 college-level quarter credits, OR The state approved paraeducator assessment test
  • Proficient in basic spelling, math and grammar skills
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Complete the District’s Paraeducator Core Competency requirements
  • Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with students
  • Bilingual/Spanish speaking
  • Possess and maintain American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR and first aid training
  • Type II driver’s license
  • Successfully complete the district approved Right Response training at the advanced level at the next available time; maintain current certification at the advanced level through an annual recertification class if assigned to a resource support position

Responsibilities

  • Monitors student progress and shares observations with teachers, other professional staff, and parents/guardians.
  • Assists teachers and students in preparing student work and program documentation.
  • Assists teachers in the daily management, organization, monitoring, and safety of children, including supervising recess, lunch, field trips, locker rooms, study/detention rooms, and student arrival/departure.
  • Collects and prepares instructional and non-instructional materials as directed, including assembling worksheets, lessons, art supplies, and creating/posting bulletin boards.
  • Corrects worksheets, quizzes, and assignments.
  • Supervises and conducts individuals and small groups in educational, creative, and structured play activities.
  • Assists with classwork and assignments, and tutors students in the classroom and special sessions.
  • Monitors student behavior and progress, and shares observations with teachers and other professional staff.
  • May participate in parent-teacher conferences.
  • Administers discipline as authorized.
  • Monitors student health.
  • May perform services related to the personal hygiene of students, such as toileting, diapering, and dressing.
  • May assist with adaptive/medical equipment, including tube feeding and catheterization.
  • Assists in administering district, state, and national tests, and maintains diagnostic and test data for teachers.
  • Maintains and updates student records, class lists, attendance, and other data.
  • Monitors the administration of individual academic assessment evaluations.
  • May provide basic first aid care to ill and injured students.
  • Assists in maintaining the physical appearance of the classroom, including straightening furniture and putting away materials.
  • Acts as a role model to demonstrate appropriate behavior to students.
  • Assists teachers in maintaining a classroom conducive to learning.
  • Prepares equipment and supply inventories and orders materials as necessary.
  • Assists in the supervision of volunteer and student assistants.
  • May operate a computer using educational software for student instruction and assistance.
  • Processes and distributes forms, correspondence, worksheets, tests, and schedules using office machines.
  • May enter data into a computer and maintain various databases.
  • Supervises students in educational, supportive, and structured activities.
  • Attends program meetings and training held on additional days beyond the school year.
  • Maintains files and records.
  • Documents activities and progress as required.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student information and records.
  • Maintains a pleasant, enjoyable atmosphere with student groups.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
