About The Position

Performs the full range of professional duties including collaboration with school personnel and the special education department, and supports the documented needs of the student. Special Education Paraprofessionals should be self-starters, flexible, and intuitive in supporting the needs of students.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Para Certificate or Post-Secondary Education preferred
  • Experience in a K-12 education system is preferred
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of student's Individual Education Plans and support in the preparation and organization of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Implement strategies and participate in ongoing training that prevents, minimizes, and manages behavioral challenges with dignity and safety for the student.
  • Participate in verbal de-escalation and crisis management training provided by the Iowa City Community School District.
  • Maintain as requested student documentation, Medicaid logs, and progress monitoring.
  • Support in the transition of students on and off the bus, as well as when needed riding the bus to support students based on student needs.
  • Create and maintain positive working relationships with the school community, students, and other employees.
  • Attends work on a prompt and regular basis.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
