About The Position

Under the direction of professional staff, this role involves working with students individually or in group settings to support their educational and behavioral needs. Responsibilities include assisting with student supervision in various environments, implementing behavior management strategies, and potentially providing one-to-one support for assigned tasks. The position also requires assisting students with necessary health assistance under nurse guidance, preparing educational materials, and aiding students during mealtimes and in personal hygiene areas. Additionally, the role includes assisting students with transportation to and from buses or cars, with assignments potentially varying based on building and district needs.

Requirements

  • Two year post secondary education or Paraeducator certificate or qualifying score on NCRC assessment test required.
  • Willingness to assume responsibility.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Flexibility in working with classroom teachers.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to effectively supervise students while maintaining a positive relationship with them.
  • Capable of representing the school in a professional manner, which includes but is not limited to confidentiality, communication skills, and dress.
  • Regular attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Work with students individually or in group settings.
  • Assist with supervision of students (classroom, cafeteria, halls, etc.).
  • Implement behavior management strategies.
  • May include riding the bus with students.
  • May include working one to one with student to complete assigned tasks.
  • Student supervision required.
  • Ensuring student safety is required.
  • Assist students with the necessary health assistance under the guidance of the nurses.
  • Assist in the preparation of materials used in the educational process.
  • Assist students at mealtime.
  • Assist students in personal hygiene areas.
  • Help get students to and from bus or car.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
  • Assignments may vary based on building and district needs.
