Special Education Mentor (1:1)

Project Genesis is seeking a Special Education Mentor / Transition Teacher to work one-on-one with students with disabilities as they transition from high school into adulthood. This role involves teaching practical life skills, supporting educational goals, and celebrating milestones. Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least one year of experience in education, special education, behavioral health, or human services.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (minimum three years).
- Reliable transportation and proof of automobile insurance.
- Ability to obtain a Connecticut Public Passenger Endorsement (A) after hire (company reimbursement provided).
- Ability to pass required pre-employment and random 10-panel drug screening.
- Ability to travel locally throughout the service area.
Nice To Haves
- College coursework or a degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Human Services, Social Work, or a related field is preferred.
- Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and transition services is preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish candidates are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Delivering individualized instruction in community-based settings.
- Teaching life skills including communication, problem-solving, budgeting, workplace readiness, and independent living.
- Supporting students as they work toward educational, employment, and personal goals.
- Maintaining student progress notes and Individualized Education Program (IEP) portfolios.
- Implementing positive behavior supports and evidence-based teaching strategies.
- Building positive relationships with students, families, schools, and community partners.
- Traveling locally (within approximately 30 miles) to provide services where students learn and thrive.
