About The Position

Providence Hall Junior High is seeking an enthusiastic and student-centered Special Education Math Teacher for grades 6-8. This role involves making mathematics accessible and achievable for learners with diverse needs. The position includes direct mathematics instruction, specially designed instruction, progress monitoring, collaboration, and IEP case management within a supportive special education team. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with middle school students and fostering their success in mathematics.

Requirements

  • Current Utah educator license with a Special Education license area/appropriate Mild/Moderate Support Needs credential, or ability to obtain appropriate Utah licensure.
  • Strong mathematics content knowledge and demonstrated ability to teach middle school mathematics to students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of Utah mathematics standards, special education law and procedures, IEP development, progress monitoring, accommodations, and specially designed instruction.
  • Classroom experience, student teaching, or other relevant experience working with middle school students with a range of learning, behavioral, emotional, or physical support needs.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage instructional and compliance responsibilities effectively.
  • Positive, professional communication skills and the ability to collaborate with students, families, colleagues, and service providers.
  • Ability to remain calm, flexible, and solutions-focused in a fast-paced middle school environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, traverse school facilities, and lead students to safety in an emergency.
  • Must pass required education verification, background screening, and professional reference checks.

Nice To Haves

  • A Utah Special Education Mathematics endorsement is preferred.
  • Experience with Skyward and Google Workspace preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach engaging, standards-aligned mathematics to students in grades 6-8 receiving special education services, focusing on foundational skills, conceptual understanding, problem-solving, and mathematical confidence.
  • Plan and deliver specially designed instruction aligned with student IEP goals and Utah mathematics standards, using explicit instruction, scaffolds, accommodations, interventions, and evidence-based practices.
  • Use diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment data to identify learning needs, set appropriate goals, monitor student progress, and adjust instruction.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and revise high-quality IEPs; schedule and facilitate IEP meetings collaboratively and within required timelines.
  • Collaborate with general education math teachers, paraeducators, parents/guardians, special educators, counselors, and related service providers to support student success.
  • Support students in developing executive-functioning, self-advocacy, social, adaptive, and positive behavior skills.
  • Provide guidance and direction to paraprofessionals supporting students in mathematics and other assigned settings.
  • Participate in grade-level, department, campus, and LEA meetings, professional learning, and school activities.
  • Contribute to a positive school culture by building strong relationships with students and maintaining high expectations with compassion, consistency, and accountability.
  • Complete other responsibilities reasonably related to the position as assigned.
