About The Position

The Special Education Job Coach provides instruction, guidance, and support to students with disabilities as they develop the skills necessary for successful employment and independent living. This position coordinates work-based learning experiences by establishing partnerships with local businesses and community organizations, assisting students with career exploration and job readiness, monitoring student progress at job sites, and collaborating with families, school staff, and employers to promote positive employment outcomes. The Job Coach serves as a liaison between the school and community while ensuring compliance with applicable program requirements, labor laws, and district policies.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of career and technical education (CTE), work-based learning, and vocational education principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies related to child labor, work permits, workplace safety, and student employment.
  • Knowledge of career development, job readiness, employability skills, and workforce preparation strategies.
  • Knowledge of community resources, business partnerships, and employment opportunities for students.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, parents, employers, school personnel, and community agencies.
  • Skill in coordinating work-based learning experiences, internships, and vocational training opportunities.
  • Skill in counseling, coaching, and motivating students to develop career goals and workplace skills.
  • Skill in organizing, prioritizing, and managing multiple projects, schedules, and deadlines.
  • Skill in monitoring student progress, evaluating work performance, and providing constructive feedback.
  • Skill in preparing accurate reports, correspondence, presentations, and program documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and electronic recordkeeping systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to present information effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and applicable laws related to vocational education and student employment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and confidential records while exercising sound judgment and professionalism.
  • Ability to analyze situations, resolve problems, and make appropriate decisions in support of students and program objectives.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with school staff, employers, families, and community partners.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate meetings, career events, presentations, and worksite visits.
  • Ability to establish rapport with students and encourage positive work habits, responsibility, and career readiness.
  • Ability to travel to student work sites and community locations and, when required, transport students in accordance with district policies.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to community job sites and transport students, if required by the position.

Nice To Haves

  • associate's or bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, Human Services, Rehabilitation, Career and Technical Education, Counseling, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with students with disabilities, vocational education, workforce development, job coaching, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience collaborating with employers, community agencies, families, and school personnel preferred.
  • Experience providing instruction in job readiness, employability, independent living, or transition skills preferred.
  • Experience maintaining confidential records, preparing reports, and using computer applications such as Microsoft Office and student information systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with vocational teachers, school staff, parents, employers, and community partners to support student career development and work-based learning opportunities.
  • Coordinate student participation in vocational and work-based learning programs, ensuring required documentation and approvals are completed.
  • Counsel and mentor students in career exploration, job search strategies, interviewing techniques, workplace expectations, and employability skills.
  • Develop, coordinate, and monitor student work placements to ensure compliance with program guidelines, child labor laws, safety requirements, and insurance regulations.
  • Conduct worksite visits, evaluate student job performance, obtain employer feedback, and provide coaching to support student success.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, families, employers, school personnel, and outside agencies to facilitate communication and resolve concerns.
  • Organize career-related presentations, guest speakers, field trips, job shadowing, and other career awareness activities.
  • Promote vocational and work-based learning programs to students, parents, staff, employers, and the community.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records, program documentation, reports, and electronic databases.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, and other program materials to support communication and program compliance.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff, employers, and participating organizations regarding program requirements, work permits, child labor laws, and applicable policies.
  • Participate in meetings, professional development, community events, and advisory committees to support program goals and maintain current knowledge of vocational education practices.
  • Transport students, when authorized, to work sites, interviews, testing locations, and other program-related activities.
  • Respond to inquiries from students, parents, staff, employers, and community agencies regarding vocational education and work-based learning opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
