About The Position

This position is for a 1.0 FTE Special Education Intensive Learning Program (ILP) Teacher. The role involves providing systemic, individualized instruction in various settings (general education classroom, special education setting, large group, small group, and 1:1) to assist students in generalizing academic, social, communication/language, health, and life skills. The teacher will employ a variety of teaching strategies, including Applied Behavior Analytic (ABA) methodologies, and incorporate evidence-based curricula. Responsibilities include coordinating with general educators, directing classroom support staff, communicating with administrators, meeting with support staff to review student data and programs, participating in safety and de-escalation training, and overseeing the implementation of IEPs. The role also involves meeting with parents/guardians, conducting assessments for IEP development, and performing other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in special education preferred.
  • DESE certification in severe special needs required; DESE certification in moderate special needs and previous experience will also be considered if severe license is pursued within the first year of employment.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience in delivering 1:1 and small group instruction.
  • Experience and commitment to working in a racially and culturally diverse teaching and learning community.

Nice To Haves

  • ABA training with experience recommended.
  • Experience working with children diagnosed with ASD in inclusive settings is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide systemic, individualized instruction in the general education classroom or special education setting, in large group, small group and 1:1 as needed by the students.
  • Teach critical skills across settings to assist students to generalize academic, social, communication/language, health, and life skills in relevant contexts.
  • Employ a variety of teaching strategies including Applied Behavior Analytic (ABA) methodologies to teach skills across a student’s day.
  • Provide instruction in a variety of formats and incorporate evidence-based curricula that best suit the individual student’s learning style informed by data.
  • Coordinate and facilitate communication with the general educator for planning and support of Specialized Instructional Assistants as needed.
  • Direct classroom support staff while communicating with administrators as needed.
  • Meet weekly with support staff to review student data and programs, curriculum, and student behavioral issues and provide informal feedback.
  • Participate in district-provided safety and de-escalation training.
  • Utilize skills and strategies as needed and in accordance with behavior management plans.
  • Oversee implementation of the IEP for students on caseload.
  • Meet with parents/guardians in planning meetings to communicate student progress and goals.
  • Use data to contribute to the development of the IEP for students on caseload and conduct necessary and assigned assessments to provide data for IEP development.
  • Complete academic testing for students on caseload during evaluation cycles.
  • Perform other related duties as required, directed, or as the situation dictates.
