About The Position

To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the principal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College/University
  • Special Education Endorsement on Mississippi Teaching License
  • Minimum Class “A” Mississippi Teaching License issued by the Mississippi State Department of Education
  • All employees hired by the school district must pass a criminal background and child abuse registry check.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver high-quality, engaging instruction that meets the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities.
  • Clearly communicate information through effective verbal, written, and visual methods to support student understanding.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of content and apply specialized instructional strategies to support access to grade-level curriculum.
  • Implement Mississippi College and Career Ready Standards while aligning instruction to Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to individual student needs, including academic, behavioral, and developmental differences.
  • Differentiate instruction and provide accommodations and modifications to support a wide range of abilities and learning styles.
  • Plan and deliver lessons in a structured, sequential manner that supports student progress toward IEP goals and grade-level standards.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, interventionists, related service providers, and families to support student success in all settings.
  • Use a variety of formal and informal assessments to monitor student progress and guide instructional decisions.
  • Utilize assistive technology and instructional tools to enhance access to learning and student independence.
  • Analyze ongoing assessment data to adjust instruction and ensure continuous student growth.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment that promotes student engagement and positive behavior.
  • Implement behavior supports, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and consistent classroom management strategies.
  • Build positive relationships with parents and caregivers, maintaining open and supportive communication regarding student progress and needs.
  • Participate in professional development to strengthen instructional practices and support school improvement goals.
  • Attend and actively participate in faculty meetings, IEP meetings, and other required school or district meetings.
  • Follow and enforce school and district policies, including those outlined in student and staff handbooks.
  • Comply with all district, state, and federal regulations, including special education laws and procedural requirements.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date student records, including IEP documentation and progress monitoring data.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the principal to support effective school operations.
  • Demonstrate reliability through consistent attendance and punctuality.
