Requirements

  • Massachusetts Moderate Disabilities License, grades 5–12 preferred.
  • OR Massachusetts History or Social Studies teaching license with prior experience in therapeutic, alternative, or correctional education settings.
  • Experience supporting students with emotional, behavioral, or academic challenges.
  • Strong classroom management and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary educational team.
  • Commitment to creating a structured, supportive, and engaging learning environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in therapeutic day schools, residential programs, or correctional education settings.
  • Experience supporting students with emotional disabilities as a primary eligibility category.
  • Moderate Disabilities licensure with secondary content area experience.
  • Experience working within self contained special education classrooms.
  • Familiarity with trauma informed practices and therapeutic educational models.

Responsibilities

  • Teach history to students in grades 6 through 12 within a self contained therapeutic setting.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, standards aligned history curriculum.
  • Provide academic instruction and support to students with moderate academic and emotional needs.
  • Serve as homeroom teacher for an assigned cohort three times daily.
  • Collaborate with teaching assistants, clinicians, and support staff to promote student success.
  • Support students through structured routines, behavior supports, and relationship based interventions.
  • Maintain student progress documentation and participate in team meetings as needed.
  • Provide classroom coverage when needed using prepared lesson plans.
  • Work within a year round 220 day program, including summer programming.
