This role involves administering special education impartial due process hearings for students aged 3-21 with disabilities, arising under the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and/or Section 504 of the federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The IDEA and Section 504 outline due process procedures for resolving disagreements between parents and school districts regarding a student's identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of a free appropriate public education. These disagreements are resolved through an impartial hearing where parties present evidence before a hearing officer.
