About The Position

This role involves developing and implementing curriculum, accommodating individual student differences, and presenting subject matter according to established guidelines. The teacher will employ various instructional techniques, cooperate with staff, and plan assignments for aides or volunteers. Utilizing technology in the classroom, assisting students with study habits, and assessing student accomplishments are key aspects of the position. The teacher will also be responsible for extracurricular activities, serving as a positive role model, and creating a conducive learning environment. Classroom control, discipline, and ensuring student safety are paramount. The role includes assisting in the selection of instructional materials, maintaining open communication with students and parents, and fostering professional relationships with colleagues and the community. Participation in staff development, professional improvement, and adherence to district policies are expected. The teacher will also be responsible for maintaining records and participating in faculty meetings and committees.

Requirements

Valid Texas Teacher Certification
Special Education certification or endorsement
Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
Experience working with elementary-aged students
Knowledge of Texas Education Agency (TEA) guidelines
Ability to develop and implement curriculum
Skills in differentiating instruction
Proficiency in using educational technology
Strong classroom management skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to maintain professional relationships
Commitment to professional development

Nice To Haves

Master's degree in Special Education
Experience with specific learning disabilities or behavioral challenges
Bilingual skills (Spanish/English)

Responsibilities

Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, campus policies, and administrative regulations.
Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved.
Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements.
Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s).
Employ the use of technologies in the teaching/learning process.
Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and may sponsor outside activities approved by the school.
Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.
Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
Establish control in the classroom and administer discipline in accordance with board policies, campus policies, and administrative regulations.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents and community members.
Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Participate in the district staff development program.
Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
