About The Position

The Special Education Facilitator for High School provides campus-based leadership, coordination, and oversight of special education services with a primary focus on secondary transition, postsecondary readiness, 18+ programming, and CCMR outcomes for students with disabilities. This position serves as the liaison between the Special Education Department and campus administration, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and alignment of services to individualized student needs. The Facilitator leads efforts to improve postsecondary outcomes, workforce readiness, and College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) indicators for students receiving special education services.

Requirements

  • Valid Texas teaching certification with Special Education endorsement (preferred)
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university (preferred)
  • Satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check (employee-paid)
  • In-depth knowledge of ARD processes, IEP transition components, and postsecondary planning
  • Strong understanding of secondary instructional programming, graduation pathways, and CCMR indicators
  • Knowledge of 18+ transition programming, adult service agencies, and workforce readiness systems
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements under IDEA and Texas special education law
  • Strong communication, organization, and data monitoring skills
  • Minimum 3 years of secondary-level special education teaching experience
  • Minimum 3 years in a leadership, coordination, or instructional coaching role

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of high-quality, transition-focused IEPs for all high school students.
  • Ensure transition plans align with student strengths, interests, and measurable postsecondary goals.
  • Oversee referrals, placement, and coordination for the district’s 18+ transition program (SSTEP).
  • Coordinate student participation in work-based learning, vocational training, and community-based instruction opportunities.
  • Serve as the campus point of contact for adult service agencies (e.g., ACOOG, community partners).
  • Support student and family understanding of postsecondary pathways, including employment, training, and independent living.
  • Monitor and support student progress toward College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) indicators, including IBC attainment, coursework completion, and transition readiness.
  • Collaborate with counselors and CTE staff to ensure students with disabilities have access to Industry-Based Certifications (IBCs), coherent sequences, and graduation pathways.
  • Analyze campus data related to graduation codes, completers vs. concentrators, and postsecondary outcomes.
  • Support ARD committees in making informed decisions aligned to graduation planning and CCMR readiness.
  • Support teachers in implementing effective instructional practices across all service delivery models (inclusion, resource, life skills, behavior programs) in preparation of postsecondary.
  • Provide coaching on differentiated instruction, functional skill development, and transition-aligned instruction.
  • Ensure instructional supports and behavior interventions are aligned to students’ IEP goals.
  • Promote inclusive practices and access to the least restrictive environment (LRE).
  • Provide guidance and technical assistance to special education teachers, instructional aides, and related service providers.
  • Support onboarding and ongoing development of new special education staff assigned to the campus.
  • Coordinate and deliver campus-level professional development aligned with district goals and student needs.
  • Promote a culture of shared responsibility, collaboration, and high expectations for students with disabilities.
  • Ensure transition and IEP documentation is accurate, compliant, and aligned to federal and state requirements.
  • Participate in audits, folder reviews, and corrective action processes.
  • Monitor campus performance related to state indicators (e.g., Indicator 13 and postsecondary outcomes).
  • Maintain documentation systems, service logs, and progress monitoring records.
  • Support ARD teams in preparing families for transition planning and postsecondary decision-making.
  • Serve as a contact for families regarding transition services, 18+ programming, and adult agency supports.
  • Facilitate connections between families and community resources.
  • Support or host transition-related family engagement events.
  • Serve as liaison between the campus and the Special Education Department.
  • Collaborate with general education staff, counselors, LSSPs, and administrators.
  • Provide updates to the Director of Special Education regarding campus needs, compliance, and student outcomes.
  • Coordinate with feeder campuses and district programs to ensure smooth student transitions.
  • Coordinate campus support for districtwide transition events, including job fairs and the 18+ celebration.
  • Assist with the implementation of in-home/parent training services as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education to support student success and compliance.
