About The Position

The Special Education Evaluator is responsible for conducting comprehensive academic achievement assessments as part of initial evaluations and three-year reevaluations for students in grades 6–12. This position plays a central role in ensuring that evaluation data is thorough, timely, and supports legally sound eligibility determinations under IDEA and 603 CMR 28.00.

Requirements

Massachusetts licensure in Special Education or a related field with appropriate endorsement
Demonstrated proficiency in administering and interpreting a broad battery of academic achievement assessments
Knowledge of IDEA, 603 CMR 28.00, and Massachusetts eligibility criteria across disability categories
Familiarity with IEP Team meeting processes and the role of evaluation data in eligibility and programming decisions
Strong written communication skills; ability to produce professional, legally defensible evaluation reports

Experience working at the secondary level preferred

Responsibilities

Administer, score, and interpret standardized academic achievement assessments (e.g., WIAT, WJ-IV, KeyMath) for initial evaluations and triennial reevaluations
Write clear, comprehensive evaluation reports that accurately reflect student strengths and needs, present levels of educational performance, and translate assessment findings into meaningful educational implications
Work collaboratively with the Evaluation Team Leader to coordinate assessment timelines, align evaluation components, and ensure cohesive, comprehensive evaluation reports that meet procedural requirements
Ensure evaluation timelines comply with state and federal procedural requirements
Collaborate with building-based special education teams to share evaluation findings and support IEP development
Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with district and DESE requirements
Serve as a resource to newer special education teachers on the eligibility determination process and interpretation of academic achievement data
Participate in Team/IEP chair meetings as needed.
When needed, provide direct service to students in service of IEP goals
Support Team chairs in facilitating meetings where assessment data drives decision-making
Other duties as assigned by building administrator or special education administrator
