About The Position

Huron Valley Schools is seeking an enthusiastic, competent and effective teacher consultant with experience in utilizing best practices supporting students with disabilities, the ability to lead educational personnel on behalf of students with disabilities, and complete student eligibility evaluation. This teacher will need to be a highly collaborative employee and effective communicator in using both verbal and written skills. This position is an Instructional/Special Education Teacher Consultant without a Caseload, located in District Elementary Schools. The salary is per HVEA Contract and reports to the Principal & Student Support Services Associate Director. The status is for the School Year 2026-27, with a start date as soon as possible. The posting date was 08/05/2026 and the closing date is until filled.

Requirements

Must hold a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a Special Education endorsement in Learning Disabilities (SM), Autism Spectrum Disorder (SV), Cognitive Impairments (SA), or Emotional Impairments (SE).
Possess a master's degree in education or a field of study related to special education.
Show evidence of a minimum of 3 years of satisfactory teaching experience, not less than 2 years of which shall be teaching in a special education program.
Possess full or temporary approval as a Teacher Consultant or the ability for the district to apply for temporary approval.
Meet the Highly Qualified standard under the ESSA OR be recommended for a certificate or endorsement, constituting full approval in a special education area by an institution of higher education signifying verification of completion of a teacher program, as approved by the State Board of Education.
Ability to speak and write effectively.
Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

Assess student needs by the appropriate use of agency and school records through interviews of school personnel, family members, and community sources, and by observation of students.
Clearly interpret the results of diagnostic procedures to parents, schools, and relevant others and establish follow-up procedures for monitoring student progress.
Assist in developing and establishing programs for students based on the results of diagnostic procedures.
Understand and apply the concepts of child learning and development in any diagnostic, treatment, or interpretive situation.
Have a strong working knowledge of special education, MARSE and IDEA, law.
Evaluate students with a variety of disabilities including but not limited to: SLD, ASD, EI, CI, VI, HI, PI, OHI, SLI, and ADHD.
Attend district and ISD professional learning opportunities, then share key takeaways and/or lead professional development with colleagues.
Utilize knowledge of the techniques of modification and accommodations as they relate to the MET evaluation process.
Collaborate, model, and lead special education teachers, general education teachers, ancillary staff members, and paraeducators to best support students with disabilities in their LRE.
Lead Child Find meetings within assigned buildings, when appropriate.
Keep building caseloads organized and up to date.
Organize building IEP schedule to assist with compliance and ensuring reevaluations are done on time.
Effectively communicate in writing and verbally with students, staff and families.
Assist staff with progress monitoring student growth on IEP goals and reporting data to families.
Be engaged while attending building and department meetings.
Be a learner of your content and other school related topics to benefit students.
Sign Consent to Bill for Medicaid.
Follow both rule numbers MARSE rule R 340.1749 and MARSE rule R 340.1748a in the event minimal caseload is assigned by the Executive Director of Student Support Services.
Perform other duties assigned by the special education director or the building principal.
