About The Position

This part-time position is 0.75 FTE, six hours per day, on the CL-192 schedule (192 days per full school year), Monday through Friday. The Educational Assistant supports teachers in planning and implementing educational and behavioral management programs for students with developmental or other learning disabilities, helping students benefit from education. Work includes instructional assistance using standardized lessons, teacher-prepared lessons, or assistant-prepared lessons approved by the teacher, as well as clerical tasks that support the educational process. The position monitors student mastery of academic and social skills through periodic testing and evaluation. Supervisors determine general class content and objectives, while the assistant has latitude in teaching methods. The role may require substantial lesson preparation and review outside class hours and, at times, additional student counseling after school. Applicants must document Highly Qualified status as defined by Oregon requirements. Acceptable documentation includes transcripts showing two years of postsecondary study (72 quarter credit hours or 48 semester credits), a diploma for an associate’s or higher degree, or test scores showing successful completion of a rigorous state or local academic assessment in reading, writing, and mathematics. A resume alone is not sufficient. Additional minimum qualifications include previous training, education, or experience in instructional techniques and behavior management and modification, basic clerical training, and demonstrated typing ability. Bilingual proficiency and/or multicultural experience is strongly preferred. Upon an offer of employment, applicants must obtain fingerprint clearance through the Oregon State Police and FBI using a process authorized by Eugene School District 4J; the applicant is responsible for the one-time fee. Complete online applications and required documentation must be submitted through the GovernmentJobs website.
