About The Position

Great River Connections Academy (GRCA) is a tuition-free public online eSchool serving students in grades K-12 throughout Ohio. This position, accepting applications for the 2026-2027 school year, is based out of the Columbus, OH office or can be performed remotely. The Special Education Coordinator reports to the Manager of Special Education and is responsible for managing the educational needs of students with disabilities. This is a 10-month position with potential for summer hours, determined by project assignments. The role ensures the school provides appropriate programs in the least restrictive environment for all students with special needs, involving management of RTl and IEP processes, student data maintenance, and parent communication.

Requirements

  • Reside within 30 miles of Ohio border
  • Special Education Certification
  • A minimum of 3 years full-time successful teaching experience in special education
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Customer focused approach
  • High degree of flexibility
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast paced environment
  • Technologically proficient (especially with Microsoft Office products)
  • Occasional travel specific to state testing, professional development and student engagement activities
  • 2-step authentication is required to set-up to login to all systems if given a job offer.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain documentation within the Learning Management System that captures and organizes special education timelines and data.
  • Communicate and consult with teachers and learning coaches regarding the instructional program for students with disabilities or other special needs.
  • Oversee the development, tracking, dissemination and proper implementation of IEP or 504 plan mandated accommodations for students with special needs during state testing events.
  • Work directly with parents, as needed, to answer questions, ensure that all school actions are in compliance, and that students are learning in the Least Restrictive Environment.
  • Develop a working knowledge of Connections Academy’s curriculum options, and how they can be adapted and implemented to meet specific student needs.
  • Introduce new ways of supporting special needs students in a virtual environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the School Leader or Manager of Special Education.
  • Act as District Representative in assigned IEP and ETR meetings.
  • Write evaluations for assigned Intervention Specialists two times per year according to evaluation cycles.
  • Other duties as determined necessary by the School Leader or Manager of Special Education.
