About The Position

WHIN Music Community Charter School is seeking a high-performing Teacher Compliance Chair/ Special Education Teacher Support Service (SETSS) Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. WHIN is the first school of its kind, built on the principles of El Sistema, providing rigorous academic instruction, intensive music education, and a positive learning environment. The school emphasizes collaboration with families, restorative justice, inquiry-based learning, and authentic experiences. WHIN is looking for staff who are eager to grow in a collaborative environment and excited about teaching in a diverse school and neighborhood. The role involves prioritizing academics, character development, and personal growth, with music at its core. Students engage in project-based, hands-on learning to cultivate curiosity, creativity, and hard work. The SETSS role focuses on providing specially designed and/or supplemental instruction to support students with disabilities in the general education classroom, consulting with general education teachers, and offering flexible service models (push-in or pull-out, direct and indirect services). The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in instructing students in all core content areas, creating an engaging and inclusive culture, differentiating instruction to meet specific learner needs, analyzing data to drive academic outcomes, contributing to Child Study Team assessments, implementing a music-infused curriculum, inspiring students and staff, and developing strong relationships with parents and families. The Special Education Coordinator responsibilities include analyzing academic data, managing the Special Education referral process, maintaining organized records, collaborating on reports, ensuring compliance with IEPs and 504 plans, creating systems to track student progress, coordinating IEP processes, participating in CSE meetings, and maintaining positive relationships with the CSE.

Responsibilities

  • Specially designed and/or supplemental instruction to support the participation of the student with a disability in the general education classroom.
  • Consultation to the student's general education teacher and design services to be flexible, helping students to remain in the general education classroom and utilize the combined expertise of both the general and special education teacher.
  • Use a combination of either push-in or pull-out service model as well as provide both direct and indirect services for a student.
  • Instruct students in all core content areas and create and maintain a joyful, engaging, and inclusive culture where all students love to learn in small group or inside the classroom.
  • Targeting instruction and differentiating instruction to meet specific learners needs to improve sensory and perceptual motor skills, language, cognition, and memory using smaller groups of students.
  • Actively engaging students in rigorous, project based, common core aligned learning experiences.
  • Driving academic outcomes for all students by analyzing data, differentiating instruction, and supporting each learner’s unique needs.
  • Contributing to the Child Study Team’s assessments of student needs.
  • Implementing a music-infused academic curriculum with support from the Director of Music and Directors of Curriculum and Instruction.
  • Inspiring students and fellow staff to perform at their highest potential.
  • Developing and maintaining strong and professional relationships with WHIN parents and families.
  • Developing, modifying, and implementing curriculum and assessments for students with disabilities as determined in a student's IEP and/or 504 plan.
  • Analyze a wide range of academic data, including class assessments, specialized evaluations, and teacher reports to build and present compelling cases for scholars to receive Special Education services.
  • Support the Director of Special Education with managing the Special Education referral process from start to finish while ensuring families and relevant stakeholders are kept informed of all evaluations.
  • Maintain organized Special Education records for all students by utilizing WHIN’s internal data management system.
  • In partnership with the Director of Special Education, collect and edit reports that are part of a student’s special education record.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Special Education to ensure all students with Special Education services are in compliance with their mandated services and accommodations.
  • Ensure WHIN complies with all relevant laws and policies pertaining to student IEPs and 504 plans.
  • Collaborate with the school leadership and teaching staff to create strong systems that track student progress and move swiftly to update as necessary to support scholar growth.
  • In partnership with the Director of Special Education, schedule and coordinate all aspects of a student IEP process.
  • Participate in Committee of Special Education (CSE) meetings and ping the CSE to finalize reports.
  • Send a summary email of each meeting to the CSE and update the necessary information in WHIN’s internal special education tracker.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with the CSE.
