About The Position

This position involves two roles: Special Education Assistant for 4 hours and Educational Assistant for 2 hours, totaling 6 hours per day. The role operates on a 10-month calendar, with the specific location being Eastwood Elementary School. Internal Classified employees are not eligible to apply during their probationary period. Highly Qualified Applicants must submit a TalentEd application, current resume, three current letters of reference, and meet specific educational requirements (Associate’s Degree or higher, or 48-semester college credits, or 72 quarter college credits, or completion of District-approved skill assessment tests like WorkKeys). Applicants must also attend and pass a two-day Safety Care Restraint Training and online sessions regarding Special Education Process and Procedures. Employment is contingent on successful completion of these courses. The Special Education Assistant role provides educational support to students under licensed staff direction, focusing on Individual Education Plans, supervising students in various settings, and assisting with Behavior Support Plans. The Educational Assistant role provides general educational support to students under licensed staff direction and supervises students in various settings, monitoring for safety concerns.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English
  • Proficient in the use of computer and Internet based applications, including but not limited to email and systems applications
  • Hold a valid certificate in a District approved student intervention system or be able to obtain in 60 days
  • Experience working with children
  • Highly Qualified Status Required (two years of post-secondary education or an associates (or higher) degree; or District approved academic assessment)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish Required (bilingual is defined as fluency in reading, writing and speaking in two languages as determined by District screening tool)
