The Special Education Assistant (Cross Cat) at McKinley High School works 6.5 hours per day for 191 days per year. The starting hourly rate is $18.95. This role involves assisting teachers in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and supporting students to meet their educational needs, fostering independence and personal responsibility. The assistant will provide various forms of support, including lavatory assistance, help during lunch and recreational activities, and transportation to and from classes and on trips. A key aspect of the role is understanding and maintaining the academic and behavioral standards set by the certified teacher. Additional duties include assisting students with bus loading/unloading and participating in active therapy programs. Applicants must be Highly Qualified, which means having two years of college (48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours), an Associate's Degree, or passing the Praxis Paraprofessional Assessment Exam. A valid Educational Aide Permit is also required.
