About The Position

The Early Learning Center at Schreiber is seeking a Special Education Assistant (Cross Categorical) to work 6.5 hours per day, 191 days per year. The starting hourly rate is $18.95. This role involves assisting teachers in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and supporting students' educational needs, independence, and personal responsibility. The assistant will also provide support during lavatory use, lunch, recreational activities, and transportation to and from classes and on trips. Maintaining academic and behavioral standards, assisting with bus loading/unloading, and participating in active therapy programs are also key duties. The position requires applicants to be Highly Qualified, which is defined as having two years of college (48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours), an Associate's Degree, or passing the Praxis Paraprofessional Assessment Exam. A valid Educational Aide Permit is also required.

Responsibilities

Assists the teacher to implement the IEP’s
Assists students as needed to fulfill their educational needs
Helps students develop a sense of independence and personal responsibility
Provides lavatory assistance when necessary
Assists students during lunch and recreational activities
Assists students to and from classes
Assists students on trips
Understands and maintains the academic and behavioral standards set for the students by the certified teacher
Assists students loading and unloading on buses
Assists in active therapy programs
Performs other duties as assigned
