About The Position

Assist a special education teacher in meeting the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in a Functional Academics (FA) setting. FA provides educational services primarily to students with cognitive impairments who access the general education curriculum through prerequisite skills. Each student follows an individually paced curriculum emphasizing reading, writing, math, and pre-vocational skills. Instruction is designed for students requiring alternate assessment, and students may participate in activities and classes with nondisabled peers with support. Classrooms provide opportunities for intensive specialized instruction on prerequisite-level Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The aide supports instruction, student care, classroom operations, supervision, and behavior management. Special Education Department staff share responsibility for student and adult health, safety, and confidentiality, which may include implementing, supporting, and documenting behavioral interventions or providing school health, related, and personal care services.
