The Special Education Aide is responsible for working as a team member in providing a quality educational program for scholars with disabilities. This role involves supporting the planning, implementation, and evaluation of strategies for individual and group behavioral management, academic, or transitioning goals. The aide will actively participate in various school activities, present lessons, assist with instruction, and prepare materials as directed by the certified teacher. Responsibilities also include assisting with scholar transportation, informing teachers of scholar needs, following through with suggestions from related service providers, and implementing community-based functional instructional programs. The aide will assist with medical, adaptive daily living, and self-care needs of scholars, including eating, hygiene, toileting, and diapering, as well as lifting and transferring scholars. Participation in pool activities under supervision and assisting with behavioral/academic/vocational interventions are also key functions. Additionally, the aide will perform record-keeping tasks, interact professionally with colleagues, scholars, parents, and the community, serve as a positive role model, and help manage the physical learning environment. The role includes supervision during school day activities like before/after-school programs, lunch, recess, and bus loading/unloading to ensure scholar safety. Dependable attendance and punctuality are essential.
