About The Position

The Insights Program at Thacher Elementary School provides a highly structured environment that uses the principles of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) to develop social, behavioral, communication, and academic skills. Students receive individualized and small-group instruction and staff supports. Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, the Special Education ABA Specialist will assist certified professional staff with students to meet academic, social, emotional, and behavioral goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Experience with ABA and data collection.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
  • Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with disabilities.
  • Ability to establish and cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
  • 2 years college credits or equivalent or passing score of the ParaPro Test.

Nice To Haves

  • SafetyCare or comparable de-escalation training is preferred.
  • Prior experience working with students with autism and developmental delays preferred.
  • Registered Behavior Technician preferred.
  • Safety Care trained preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Implements interventions and de-escalation strategies with students who display significant behavioral issues within the school setting.
  • Collect and accurately record behavioral, social, academic, and other data as required per students' specific goals and programming.
  • Consistently communicates and collaborates with staff to foster student success.
  • Assist students with activities of daily living for the purpose of maximizing their ability to participate in school or learning activities including toileting.
  • Implements positive behavior support plans and collects data on student progress.
  • Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, corridor, self-care (toileting), and other related non-instructional areas.
  • Performs other job duties as required or directed by supervisors.
