Responsible for planning instruction and/or adaptation of the education program to enable students to benefit from educational experiences. Reports to the building principal for school and student-related matters, and to the Director of Special Services for general direction regarding students and/or programs. This role involves instructing individuals and groups in special education skill areas, planning curriculum and lessons, maintaining a safe environment, evaluating student progress, preparing various educational records, and participating in multidisciplinary and individualized education plan team meetings. The teacher will also assist with the development and implementation of Functional Behavioral Assessments and Plans, promote collaboration with staff and parents, and complete all required paperwork. Additionally, the role includes developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), supporting student learning in the least restrictive environment, differentiating instruction, documenting student progress, collaborating with service providers, developing and implementing behavior support plans, and participating in special education and building/district meetings. The position also requires logging and maintaining monthly Service Capture reporting for Medicaid Billing and documenting IEP-related services, participating in Student Success Team processes, and supporting positive behavior support initiatives. Parent and community engagement is crucial, involving regular positive contact with parents, establishing effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues, and participating in parent meetings. The role also requires serving as a role model, interacting positively with others, contributing to team spirit, attending staff meetings, and complying with district policies and the union contract.
