About The Position

Provides an educational program for learning handicapped pupils who are seriously academically deficient in relation to their ability in one or all of the following subjects: reading, mathematics, language; and who have a behavioral, neurological, and/or emotional problem of such severity that satisfactory progress cannot be expected in the regular classroom with Resource Specialist assistance. Students assigned to SDC designation must require one-half or more of their school day in special education.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches one or all of the following subjects: reading, mathematics, or language to learning handicapped pupils who are seriously academically deficient; provides frequent, intensive, and individually planned small group and/or individual instruction in areas of need as indicated by IEP process.
  • Provides updated educational assessment information at least annually to the IEPT and participates in any district placement meetings for his/her student.
  • Works with assigned school staff in providing appropriate/beneficial mainstreaming opportunities for his/her SDC students.
  • Provides counseling to staff members regarding the remedial processes and difficulties involved in instructing these pupils.
  • Confers frequently with parents and professional staff members on progress of each pupil.
  • Provides appropriate physical and psychological learning environment to establish and reinforce acceptable pupil behavior, attitudes, social skills and self-image.
  • Reports enrollment, A.D.A., and other required statistical information to the Director of Special Education
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
