About The Position

The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) is seeking a highly motivated, solutions-oriented professional to serve as Special Assistant to the Chair and Commissioner. This role is crucial for driving key priorities such as dignity for drivers and passengers, corporate accountability, and a seamless transportation system. The Special Assistant will act as the Commissioner's right hand, supporting their engagement with the licensee community and ensuring the smooth operation of a mobile, high-visibility office. The position offers significant exposure to executive decision-making, city operations, and community engagement, serving as a potential launchpad into public service or civic innovation.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory, full-time experience related to the projects and policies to be studied in the position; or
  • A satisfactory equivalent of education and/or experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Commissioner’s primary aide, accompanying them to meetings, site visits, and community events, capturing notes and action items, and ensuring timely follow-through.
  • Manage the daily flow of the Commissioner's office, including schedules, briefing materials, transitions, and real-time adjustments in coordination with the Executive Assistant.
  • Prepare the Commissioner for engagements by reviewing materials, identifying gaps, and clarifying decisions and follow-ups.
  • Draft follow-ups, summaries, talking points, and briefing materials.
  • Work with internal divisions to gather information, resolve issues, and advance initiatives.
  • Maintain strict discretion and professional judgment.
  • Support the Commissioner’s visible presence with drivers, passengers, elected officials, and industry leaders by managing logistics for external engagements, including stakeholder context, digital photos, content needs, and follow-ups.
  • Anticipate and coordinate all physical readiness needs for the Commissioner during engagements throughout the City, such as changes of clothes, cultural and community event considerations, weather-related preparations, holding items, and providing food or beverages.
  • Route issues identified in the field to the appropriate division and track them through resolution.
  • Build rapport with drivers and industry stakeholders and elevate insights to leadership.
  • Lead or support cross-agency projects assigned by the Commissioner or Chief of Staff, tracking project progress and ensuring deliverables are met.
  • Coordinate with the Chief of Staff to align priorities, deadlines, and initiatives.
  • Conduct research and prepare memos and presentations for policy, operational, or community initiatives.
