About The Position

Responsible for underwriting all credit requests, including new requests as well as credit decisioning within some portfolios. Accountable for recommending credit structures with respect to quality and profitability within assigned geographies. Fundamental duties include ensuring that the risk philosophy, risk appetite, and lending strategies are adhered to while maintaining a high level of client responsiveness. Analyze financial statements and navigate a wide variety of financial structures, credit scenarios. Ensure commercial lending activities are executed according to Truist's policies and procedures. Builds effective relationships with Risk Management and client managers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent education and related training
  • Ten+ years of experience in commercial lending and/or credit experience
  • Comprehensive commercial lending, underwriting, and regulatory knowledge
  • Demonstrated effective problem solving skills
  • Understanding of financial and cost accounting principles
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and communication
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business or equivalent financial industry training
  • RMA - Credit Risk Certification
  • Demonstrated proficiency in commercial lending systems

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage a classified loan portfolio involving complex credit structures, including syndicated corporate, leveraged finance, and middle‑market exposures, with elevated risk profiles.
  • Develop, interpret, and challenge advanced analytical financial models—including financial projections, discounted cash flow analysis, enterprise valuation, and analysis of historical and projected cash flows—to support credit decisioning, restructuring strategies, and downside risk assessment.
  • Serve as a primary point of coordination and analysis for complex credit situations by actively engaging with internal stakeholders and external restructuring professionals, including legal counsel, financial advisors, investment bankers, and other vendors involved in credit resolution and workout activities.
  • Assign, support, and document risk grades for assigned exposures in strict accordance with Bank policy, regulatory guidance, and supervisory expectations, ensuring accuracy, defensibility, and audit readiness.
  • Prepare and maintain required reporting related to impairment analysis, accrual status justification, criticized loan asset reporting, and other regulatory or management reporting, with a focus on precision, timeliness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support the commercial lending process through underwriting, policy knowledge, credit structuring, and risk assessment in credit request packages in large and complex segments within wholesale lending or specialty lines of businesses. Ensure packages are complete, accurate and thoroughly documented
  • Analyze and/or recommend adjustments to financial statement spreads
  • Interact with client, verbally and in writing, on pending loan requests or portfolio management actions
  • Understand and articulate all Truist Wholesale Credit policies, procedures and processes.
  • Recommend credit within the Bank's risk appetite, and document when and why exceptions are appropriate.
  • May require specialized underwriting skills for Commercial and Industrial, Commercial Real Estate, SBA lending, and other product offerings
  • Exercise prudent credit judgment through individual loan authority, if applicable
  • Engage in the development of teammates by coaching/mentoring, this includes underwriting, policy, credit structuring, risk identification, and utilization of lending authority
  • Effectively manage a team of Portfolio Managers, if applicable
  • Keep abreast of changing business and economic developments which impact the loan portfolio, its profitability, risk management and banking in general
  • Position may require occasional overnight travel
